Our Modalities
Seven evidence-informed services, each deployed selectively based on your biology. Not every patient needs every modality — we choose what your data supports.
Hospital Indications
Seven clinical areas where GIMC applies its full integrative diagnostic and treatment expertise.
Environmental Diseases & Long Covid
Specialised treatment for post-viral syndromes and environmentally triggered chronic illness, including Long Covid recovery.

What Each Modality Actually Involves
Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture is among the most extensively studied non-pharmacological interventions in existence. At Meridian Health, we practice classical TCM diagnostics — pulse and tongue assessment, channel palpation, constitutional typing — alongside modern evidence from pain science, neuroimmunology, and inflammation research.
Dr. John views acupuncture not as a standalone modality but as one layer of a comprehensive clinical protocol. Needling sessions are typically 45–60 minutes and integrated with your functional lab findings. Common presentations we address include chronic pain, migraine, IBS, anxiety, hormonal dysregulation, and immune disorders.
Peer-reviewed evidence supports acupuncture for chronic pain (JAMA Internal Medicine), chemotherapy-induced nausea, tension headache (Cochrane), and anxiety disorders (Journal of Psychiatric Research).
Functional Medicine & Advanced Diagnostics
Functional medicine begins with a different question: not "what disease does this patient have?" but "why is this patient's physiology behaving this way?" That shift in framing changes everything — what tests are ordered, how results are interpreted, and what interventions are chosen.
Our functional medicine consultations combine a comprehensive 90-minute intake with advanced laboratory analysis. We use DUTCH hormone mapping, GI-MAP microbiome testing, organic acids, micronutrient panels, and advanced cardiovascular risk markers — interpreting results not against population averages but against optimal physiological ranges.
The functional medicine model is supported by research from the Institute for Functional Medicine and published in peer-reviewed journals including PLOS ONE and the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine.
Herbal & Botanical Therapy
Botanical medicine is not herbal folklore. When prescribed correctly, plant-derived compounds demonstrate measurable pharmacological activity — modulating inflammatory pathways, supporting hepatic detoxification, balancing endocrine function, and influencing the microbiome in ways pharmaceutical agents cannot replicate.
Dr. John prescribes botanical protocols with the same rigour as pharmaceutical care: therapeutic dosing, interaction checking against concurrent medications, and regular clinical reassessment. We use professional-grade dispensary formulations — not retail supplements — and monitor outcomes with functional lab markers.
Botanicals with strong clinical evidence include berberine (type 2 diabetes — NEJM), ashwagandha (cortisol and anxiety — Medicine), curcumin (inflammation — Oncotarget), and milk thistle (hepatoprotection — Phytotherapy Research).
Clinical Nutrition & Gut Health
The microbiome is the most significant clinical frontier of the last decade. We now understand that the 38 trillion microbial organisms inhabiting the gut regulate immune function, produce neurotransmitters, modulate inflammation, and influence metabolic outcomes in ways that redefine the practice of nutrition.
Our clinical nutrition protocols begin with GI-MAP DNA stool analysis, food sensitivity testing, and organic acids — building a microbiome profile before making a single dietary recommendation. What follows is a precision nutrition plan: specific foods, therapeutic doses of pre- and probiotics, gut-healing compounds, and a phased dietary progression tailored to your microbiome findings.
Gut-brain axis research is published extensively in Nature Reviews Neuroscience. The microbiome's role in immunity is documented in Cell and Science. Nutrition as therapeutic intervention is validated in the Lancet.
Mind-Body Medicine & Breathwork
The autonomic nervous system governs nearly every physiological process — heart rate, digestion, immune activation, hormone secretion. When it becomes dysregulated through chronic stress, trauma, or HPA axis dysfunction, downstream effects are wide-ranging: disrupted sleep, elevated cortisol, impaired gut motility, immune suppression.
Mind-body medicine at Meridian is not relaxation therapy. It is nervous-system regulation as clinical intervention. We use structured breathwork (coherence breathing, physiological sighs, box breathing), heart rate variability training, and somatic tracking techniques — each one integrated into your clinical protocol and monitored against cortisol markers and symptom outcomes.
HRV biofeedback is validated for anxiety and depression (Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback). Breathwork modulation of the autonomic nervous system is documented in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.
IV Nutrient & Infusion Therapy
Oral supplementation has a fundamental limitation: gastrointestinal absorption. In patients with compromised gut integrity, documented micronutrient deficiencies, or high therapeutic demands, intravenous delivery bypasses this barrier entirely — delivering nutrients directly into circulation at concentrations unachievable through any oral route.
Our infusion protocols are prescribed exclusively on the basis of laboratory findings — never as general wellness therapy. Common infusions include high-dose vitamin C, magnesium, B-complex, glutathione, Myers cocktail, NAD+, and phosphatidylcholine. Each infusion is administered in our clinical suite under medical supervision with pre- and post-infusion monitoring.
High-dose IV vitamin C is studied extensively in integrative oncology (Frontiers in Oncology). IV magnesium is an established emergency intervention (BMJ). IV glutathione is under active investigation for Parkinson's and oxidative stress conditions.
Conditions We Address
Why one modality is rarely enough.
A patient presenting with chronic fatigue, disrupted sleep, and anxiety is rarely suffering from a single deficiency. More often, the presentation reflects a convergence of HPA axis dysregulation, microbiome imbalance, and mitochondrial dysfunction — each feeding the others.
Addressing only one thread rarely unravels the whole. A protocol that combines adaptogenic botanical support with gut microbiome repair, targeted micronutrient repletion via IV therapy, acupuncture for nervous system regulation, and breathwork for HPA axis recovery — acting on the same underlying dysfunction through different mechanisms — produces outcomes that no single modality achieves alone.
This is the architecture of an integrative protocol: not a collection of separate treatments, but a coordinated clinical strategy targeting the same root causes from multiple angles.
Not sure which modality fits you?
Most patients don't need to know in advance. The initial consultation determines which modalities are most relevant to your biology.
